What do you do when you get everything you ever wanted, and then don’t know what to do with it?

I wanted college degrees, travel, and a lot of books in my life; I didn’t particularly want a child. Until I did. Then I did, very very badly. I willingly set aside the travel when Anna came along — the 27-hour trip home from the Russian town in which we adopted her should hold us over for a while — but kept the degrees and the books. Two years later, it wasn’t working — for anyone involved — so I traded in the degrees, or at least the job attached to the degrees. I kept the books, but now they have a lot more pictures.
